Farming families from across the central and eastern Wheatbelt are being invited to participate in an innovative and flexible work placement program with Solum; Wheatbelt Business Solutions.
Solum is seeking farmers and family members in the central eastern Wheatbelt, of all ages and abilities to participate in a pool of workers that can work on a rotational, contract or casual basis in a variety of industries including mining, construction and horticulture.
The jobs on offer could be flexible and will be tailored to suit farmers/family members and their seasonal calendar. The jobs may be local or outside of the Wheatbelt region.
The purpose of the program is to provide farmers and their family members with another form of income, at a time and place that suits them and their families, as well as provide an opportunity to develop their business skills and experiences.
Farmers and their families could be offered positions in mining, construction, agriculture, business, administration, research and other fields, depending upon their skills, experiences, time and employment opportunities provided.
Farmers could be eligible for training or recognition of prior learning, through local providers to enable them to have the confidence and ability to enter into a competitive workforce.
Solum is working with Directions (www.directionswa.com.au), a Wheatbelt workforce development organisation based in Northam and with a presence in Moora, Merredin, Narrogin and Kalgoorlie, to recruit, train, induct and place farmers into a variety of jobs either within their local community or beyond – Mid West, North and metropolitan regions.
Funding was received through Directions under the Royalties for Regions program.
